WolfTeam Legacy is the classic tactical multiplayer shooter brought back to life as a community project. It runs on Wolfory, a free, non-commercial community platform, and it keeps the formula that made the original game famous: on one side a squad of armed soldiers, on the other a pack of wolves with mutant powers, and rounds decided by aim, movement and teamwork rather than by spending. If you have never played, or you played the original years ago and wonder what remains, this guide answers the first three questions every new player asks: what exactly is WolfTeam Legacy, is it really free, and how do you get into your first match today?
What kind of game is WolfTeam Legacy?
WolfTeam Legacy is a round-based team shooter for Windows. You join a server, pick a channel and a room, and choose a side: red or blue. As a human you fight with rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns and grenades; at any moment you can transform into a wolf and one of seven mutations, each with its own strengths, selected with the number keys 1 to 7. Wolves are fast, stealthy and lethal up close; humans hold ground with firepower. Rounds end when a team reaches the score or time limit, and every round is a fresh decision: which side, which loadout, which mutation.
There is no subscription and no separate game world per player. One free account works everywhere: the website, the community launcher and the game itself. Your loadouts, characters, friends and rank are shared across all three, so what you earn in the evening on the website stays with you in the arena.
Free to play, and the economy stays that way
Yes, WolfTeam Legacy is genuinely free to play. The download is free, the account is free, and matches are free. More importantly, the economy is designed so that power cannot be bought: Gold and Wolf Coin are earned by playing eligible matches, and there are no currency sales, no paid combat boosts and no login-streak pressure. The platform says it plainly: power is earned, never sold.
Every new account starts as a Recruit with 5,000 Gold and claims a one-time welcome gift box in game: a 7-day C-95 SL rifle plus 10,000 Gold, enough to buy your first permanent weapons early. From there, everything you keep is earned: eligible PvP matches pay Gold, GP and Wolf Coin, GP raises your rank from Recruit up through the full military ladder, and daily reward tiers and automatic daily and weekly goals top up your income while you play normally.
How to start in three steps
First, register. Use the join page on the website and create your free account; one account covers the website, the launcher and the game. Pick a callsign you like, because this name is how friends will find you in the arena.
Second, claim your welcome gift. After your first sign-in, open the Gift Box in game and accept the C-95 SL and the 10,000 Gold bonus. The claim is one-time per account, and the 7-day timer starts when you claim it, not when you register.
Third, download and install. Grab the Windows installer from the download page and run it. It creates a desktop shortcut and opens the community launcher, which downloads the full game automatically on first open and checks for updates every time you reopen it. When the download finishes, sign in with the same account, pick your server and enter the arena.
Before you begin, make sure you have Windows 10 or later, an internet connection, at least 4 GB of free disk space and your free account. One honest note: this early community release is currently unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may ask for extra confirmation the first time you run the installer or launcher. That warning is expected for a community build; the game installs into your Windows user folder and does not require administrator tricks to run.
Practice first: free bot rooms before PvP
You do not have to learn against live opponents. AI Deathmatch rooms are free practice: create a room on Arrival, add an EASY AI opponent to an empty opposing slot and press START. The bots fight on the Foundry and Mansion maps, which makes them a safe place to drill your aim, your wolf keys and your routes.
Know the rule before you expect income: training awards no Gold, GP, Wolf Coin or goal progress. The match status command tells you whether a room is training or eligible PvP. For a match to pay rewards, the opposing teams must differ by at most one player, everyone must stay until the end, and each player must spend at least 60 seconds in the world after spawning. In short: practice for free with bots, then play fair human matches to earn.
Where to go next
This blog has a full library for new players. The getting-started guide walks through the launcher, the controls and settings guide maps every key, the game modes guide explains each mode family, the first-week roadmap gives you a day-by-day plan, and the glossary translates every term from Gold to Pride. In game, the help command lists the chat commands, and the field manual on the website collects the same knowledge in one page.
When you are ready for the social side, join or found a Pride, climb the rankings, and add your first friends to the messenger. The hunt returns, the entry is free, and every piece of power in the game is earned the same way: one fair round at a time.
